THE MILLER’S | FAMILY

Daniel and Kathryn have the most adorable  growing family. Their daughter, Annabelle, is two years old now! – I had the pleasure to photograph her when she was only a couple of weeks old! She is now the doting big sister to four month old Elijah. It is such a blessing to have returning clients that I can watch grow and change.

We had an early morning session in The Ponds. Annie was a little camera shy at first, but by the end she was very comfortable. We had a very nice family shoot.

Wedding Colours that Photograph Well

After everything is said and done, one of the only lasting mementos from a wedding are the photographs. And what if the wedding colour scheme that you chose ends up looking different in the photographs? A bride needs to consider how well the colours that she chooses will photograph before it’s too late. But don’t fear… we’ve got some handy tips to help guide you in the color choosing process to make sure you choose colours that will compliment your big day and make you look stunning in your pictures.

Colour Is the New Black (and White)

According to photographers, all colours except for black and white photograph well. Because they are shades that are high contrast, a lot of care is needed when photographing them. White can take away the focal point of the picture, while it is difficult to capture details when photographing the colour black. If you do use them, use them in a complimentary sense (i.e. for anything else other than your wedding dress). Highlight the details you want to stand out with white, while other details that you would rather have a little shaded can be in black.

Big and Bold

Big, bold colours will draw your eye. When you pick your wedding colour palette, your accent colour could be very vibrant and bold so that the detail is always picked up in photographs, therefore making it more noticeable. Take advantage, and have fun with it! Put those incredibly thoughtful and unique details in a gorgeous bold colours and you will see your details come to life.

Putting the Colour In Your World

The colours that you choose will set the tone of your entire wedding. If you prefer a more romantic vibe at your wedding, go for mute, neutral colours that will create a soft vibe. If you want a more bold celebration, follow that with daring colour combinations such as deep orange and turquoise, that will make your guests want to party.

Wedding Colors 01

Compliment Your Surroundings

If you’re having an outdoor wedding, consider warm tones, such as burgundy, pink, plum, yellow, red or tangerine. This will give your photo colour palette a very complex and flattering range, which will enhance your wedding photos. Decorate your reception in similar shades so that your bridal attire compliments the décor, rather than clashes with it.

Wedding Colors 04

Be Inspired By the Season

Let yourself be inspired by the season. Autumn leaves give you a wonderful array of colours to choose from, and will photograph especially well against the scenery; the romantic hues of spring inspire a neutral and blush palette; the summer greenery give you the opportunity to go a little crazy with colour; and winter can inspire you to find warmth in colour.

Wedding Colors 02

By choosing three or four colours that compliment each other and work within their shades, you will find that your wedding will photograph beautifully. Remember, not every item has to be in the exact colours you chose – in fact, they shouldn’t. Work within the shades for colours that compliment without being too matchy-matchy.

Werrington Lake | Werrington | Engagement | Elli & John

Elli and John are on the count down to their wedding day in March! We had a fun engagement session and I got to know them both a little bit more and hear about how they met. Having an engagement session is such good practice for your wedding day. It gives you the chance to get a feel for what it will be like on the day and it helps to break down any nerves or fears that you may have of getting your photo taken. It also lets your photographer get to know you more which means that your photographs are more personal and more true to who you are. And you can’t beat that!

Please enjoy an assortment of images from this session.

THE BOUVENG’S | FAMILY

Family sessions are always special, but this one in particular was moving to me. Recent photographs can provide enjoyment and entertainment right now, but in the future they will hold memories. It is about capturing memories that you want to preserve for your future years. It is about conveying the essence of a person or people as you remember them to be because in the future you will hold that essence dear to your heart.

I was honoured to photograph Gaye with her family. Devastatingly, Gaye has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. This was a great opportunity to get the family together to capture memories – Memories of a large family full of personality! It was a fun session with Pinwheels and coloured wigs and funny people! I enjoyed being part of the family for that afternoon – it gave me insight into the life of an amazingly strong woman who is absolutely adored by her family.

Sickness and disease suck! And other than offering support and comfort and sending your love and well wishes, I would like to say – Despite of what life has dealt you, you live and you love and you laugh! Your strength is inspiring, your smile and laugh are infectious and your love is eternal. You are a blessing to the earth and what a legacy you have given it by the love that you have shown and the life of your daughter and granddaughter. Much love to you always.

Here is an assortment of some of my favourites.

Manly | Engagement | Taleah & Keiran

I am so excited to be photographing Keiran and Taleah’s wedding in just under two weeks! This engagement session was very special as we used a couple of sentimental locations that both of them enjoy visiting together. Keiran had planned to take Taleah on a Ferry to propose, however missing it by seconds and trying to negotiate that they be let on, Taleah prompted that they just go for a walk around the harbour instead. Keiran proposed by the Opera House – a location with a magnificent view indeed!

So for this engagement session, we boarded a Ferry and sailed to Manly (Keiran’s original proposal route) , a destination that they love to visit. This session was very natural – totally my style! We stopped from place to place making the most of our surroundings.

If you are planning to have an engagement session, it is a great idea to shoot at a sentimental location. Whether it be the spot of the proposal or a place that you both enjoy together – this gives a session a personal connection, the photographs will mean more to you as they will tell your story and you may feel more comfortable and at ease.

I can’t wait to photograph Keiran and Taleah’s wedding! Until then, take a look at a lovely engagement session.

THE PALE ELI GIRL’S | FAMILY | CHRISTMAS

A family Christmas session was a great way to finish up 2013. These three sisters were so energetic and playful!

Aliyah, Liliana and Olivia were so fun to photograph and they kept me on my toes chasing after them! We sat amongst snowflakes and played with angel wings and crowns of berries. Though kids can get too excited, it is great to let them play so that you can get images of them naturally interacting and being themselves. I think we definitely captured some precious moments here.

BREANNA | FORMAL

I was so excited to be able to photograph Breanna for her Year 12 formal. The theme was “Enchanted Forest,” and her full length tulle gown was absolutely breathtaking!

Her mother, Luise, had a strong vision for this formal shoot and we incorporated a french provincial cast iron chair and mirror to give it the feel that we wanted. The weather was not fabulous on this day so we split the session – half in studio and half outdoors, which provided a good variety of images.

Breanna was natural to photograph and she was an absolute vision! I was so thrilled to be able to capture her on this very special day in her life. This was a fun shoot with a classic, romantic feel.

LUNA | NEWBORN

Photographing my niece’s newborn session was very special. Luna Rose…Isn’t that a lovely name?!

Living in the country suburbs of Newcastle (so in the middle of nowhere!!!) , this was my first time meeting Luna. She was 13 days old and completely beautiful and perfect. We conducted her session at her home though looking at the images in this blog you would easily be fooled that it was in a studio environment. It is amazing what a large window and light walls can do. If you are planning to have a newborn session at home, make sure you have a nice open space, free of clutter with access to plenty of light. Light walls also help.

Luna wriggled and cried throughout her shoot. It took us a while to settle her. Tummy pains did not help. But after some perseverance, patience and pee (Luna peeed all over me!) we had a happy little girl that we were able to pose and photograph with ease.

Luna’s mother, Emily, organised a prop and some letters to spell Luna’s name. Thinking of some creative or personal ideas is a great way to make your newborn session unique and personal. I was very pleased with the results! This little sweetheart has the most gorgeous lips and chubby cheeks! Take a look for yourself.

HARPER | NEWBORN

I really enjoy newborn sessions – there is something so special about them. Harper’s session was no exception. I loved meeting and spending some time with this little lady.  Harper was 10 weeks old when we had her session. It goes to show that you don’t have to get in there in the first 14 days of life and that waiting that little bit extra can result in a chubbier cheeked baby with more personality. It really depends on what memories you would like to preserve – littleness or personality?

Harper did not want to sleep during her session. There were just way too many things to see and she fought her heavy eyes with everything she had. But we finally got her to doze and were able to capture a combination of awake and smiley shots with some sleepy, posed shots. There are a couple of frames here, where she looks like a porcelain doll. It is just so beautiful! But I must say that as a photographer, my style is generally very natural and I really love the natural and awake photographs of Harper too. This session offered a nice combination.

DIEGO | NEWBORN

You will literally melt when you see this gorgeous newborn, Diego. At 11 days new and 4 weeks premature, it is safe to say that this little cherub was very petite and he was the perfect model for this newborn session.

This was my first studio newborn session. Diego was such a good baby and pretty much slept right through. He was just so tiny and precious! Newborns don’t stay little for too long and I was thrilled to be able to capture Diego in the littlest form that he will ever be.

Diego is the second miracle baby for his parents, Oscar and Jenifer and I was so honoured to be able to photograph this little blessing who has touched and changed their lives.

When I photograph babies, I can’t help to believe they are God breathed and sent from the heavens. They are perfect in every way.
